The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) recently announced salary increases for players. However, Shakib Al Hasan, a leading all-rounder, has not received his salary for the last four months of his contract in 2024.

BCB officials confirmed that Shakib is owed payment. They explained the delay is due to his bank account being frozen. An official stated they couldn’t process the payment because of this issue.

Shakib is expected to receive BDT 48 Lakhs (USD 38,400) before taxes. Last year, the BCB listed Shakib in their central contract for all formats of cricket, along with other key players.

Shakib had expressed interest in playing his final Test match at home against South Africa after announcing his retirement from Test and T20 International cricket. However, he didn’t play against South Africa due to security concerns.

During unrest in his country, Shakib was linked to a murder case but continued playing for the national team with BCB’s support, pending any legal conviction.

The BCB initially assured Shakib of safety to play against South Africa in Bangladesh but later changed their position, prioritizing security during the Test series, especially after the Women’s World Cup was moved from Bangladesh.

Shakib’s bank accounts were frozen around November 6th, adding to his challenges, potentially linked to his involvement in politics. Despite retiring from some formats, he had hoped to play in the Champions Trophy but was excluded due to concerns about his bowling action.

Nazmul Abedin, from BCB cricket operations, assured that Shakib will receive his payment as per his contract. He stated that the agreement will be honored, regardless of whether a player is actively playing, and they are committed to fulfilling their obligations.
