Tyson Fury has reportedly said he is “not interested” in boxing anymore, including a highly anticipated fight with Anthony Joshua.
The “Gypsy King” announced his fifth retirement from boxing in January after experiencing his first professional losses in a row against Oleksandr Usyk.
Fury, 36, appears content with his decision to retire, which would allow him more time with his wife Paris and their seven children.
According to his cousin Andy Lee, there is no indication that Fury is considering another comeback.
Speaking to iFL TV, former WBO middleweight champion Lee said: “[It’s] just the odd message here and there and he seems very happy.”
“[He said], ‘Andy I’m not interested.’ That’s what he said. ‘I couldn’t be bothered with it.’ He’s very happy.”
When asked about whether he wanted to see Fury box again, Lee commented: “As bad as it sounds, it depends on the money for Tyson.”
“It has to be a real motivator for him to come out of retirement. He seems very happy as he is.”
Boxing fans worldwide have been eager to see Fury and Joshua finally fight, despite both being past their prime.
However, Lee stated: “I don’t really care if they fight each other.”
“I’d be happy to see them retire or continue their careers separately. If they do fight, I’d support Tyson, and I believe he would win.”
Turki Alalshikh, a key figure in Saudi boxing, is interested in arranging a fight between Fury and Joshua, and recently spoke to Joshua on the phone.
Joshua is still hoping for the “Battle of Britain” fight, telling IFL TV: “I feel like it’s the best fight [for me].”
“People might suggest Parker, or others – I’m not sure.”
“But I think Fury, from a business perspective, is a significant fight, and it’s also a major fight for boxing fans. So it makes sense.”
“You could say it’s been anticipated for years. But the heavyweight division is currently doing well.”
“And the reason it remains a great fight is that Parker, in my opinion, represents a great story of perseverance.”
“Ultimately, there will be a winner and a loser, and there will be bloodshed. And it won’t be me.”
