Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn were prevented from being in the same elevator during a heated media event in Manchester.
The first stop of their UK press tour on Tuesday was filled with chaos, highlighted by Eubank Jr. throwing an egg at Benn.
Pre-existing tensions were already significant before the intense press conference, leading security to intervene and prevent the two fighters from sharing an elevator at the Central Convention Complex.
Security quickly intervened to stop Benn, accompanied by his father Nigel, from confronting Eubank Jr. when the elevator reached the floor where Eubank Jr. was waiting.
An agitated Benn yelled at his opponent: "You look stupid in that outfit!"
Eubank Jr. responded with a smile and said: "Let’s jump in."
His eagerness to join Benn in the lift clearly annoyed Benn, who retorted: "Oh shut up, Chris. [You're] talking nonsense."
"Shut up, [you're] talking nonsense!"
Benn concluded the unexpected encounter by issuing a stark threat to the IBO middleweight champion, exclaiming: "You won’t make it out!"
Footage of the exchange rapidly spread online, with one boxing fan commenting: "He’s such a wind-up."
One person noted: "Let’s jump in proper wind-up merchant, Chris."
Another added: "Yeah the security are gonna hate these two. They’re gonna be busy."
Eubank Jr.’s egg-throwing incident was a jab at Benn’s previous claim that his positive drug tests, which led to the cancellation of their 2022 fight, were due to contaminated eggs.
He posted on X: "Apparently egg contamination was the reason for his two failed drugs tests. So I contaminated him with an egg."
The viral lift incident resulted in the cancellation of Wednesday evening’s face-off at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and another planned event for tonight. However, this evening’s press conference in North London is still scheduled to proceed.
