The first One Day International (ODI) match between Sri Lanka Women and New Zealand Women was unfortunately called off due to rain. Despite a solid half-century by Harshitha Samarawickrama, the weather had the final say in the game.
New Zealand opted to bowl first after winning the toss. Sri Lanka’s innings began poorly with the early dismissal of captain Chamari Athapaththu. However, Vishmi Gunaratne and Harshitha Samarawickrama stabilized the innings with a 45-run partnership. After Gunaratne’s dismissal, Sri Lanka experienced amini-collapse, losing four wickets for just 24 runs, slipping to 94 for 4.
Kavisha Dilhari and Manudi Nanayakkara were dismissed cheaply, but Samarawickrama remained resilient at the crease. She partnered with Nilakshika Silva for a 44-run stand to rebuild the innings. Samarawickrama reached her second ODI fifty during this period. However, rain intervened and brought a halt to the match. After a considerable delay, the match was officially abandoned.
