The Soccer Aid lineups for this year’s events have been confirmed, and the selection looks exciting as always.
In a first-time event, Tyson Fury will co-manage England at the charity match for UNICEF alongside Wayne Rooney. Rooney is coming out of retirement to play and co-manage with the former heavyweight champion.
Fury has even suggested he might substitute himself into the match, creating a potentially amazing attacking partnership with Rooney, Manchester United’s all-time leading scorer.
Upon the announcement, Tyson Fury said: “ENGLAND MANAGER! Who would have thought!? I’ve had some big fights in my career, and the idea of leading my England team to victory this June excites me just as much as any heavyweight fight!
“Everyone knows I’m a huge Manchester United fan, so it’s even more special that the game is at Old Trafford this year – and I get to manage one of my heroes, Wayne Rooney!
“How can we possibly lose!? The work UNICEF does around the world is very special and important. I really hope people can come and support us this summer.”
Old Trafford will host the game, the first with fans since 2018. Interestingly, 2018 was the last time England won. Last year’s event was at Stamford Bridge.
Besides Fury, other debutants in the charity match on Sunday, June 15th include Angry Ginge, Joe Hart, Nadia Nadim, Steph Houghton, Toni Duggan, and Leonardo Bonucci.
Since the first match in 2006, England has won six times, and the World XI has won seven.
