The initial critical reception for “The Electric State,” the latest film from the Russo brothers, is overwhelmingly negative. On the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has garnered a mere 19% “fresh” rating, based on the first 16 reviews from film critics.
A significant majority of critics have expressed disappointment with the film. “The Electric State” is being heavily criticized for its weak narrative, described by some as resembling “a series of ChatGPT prompts,” its unfunny attempts at humor, a perceived absence of “originality and soul,” and an over-reliance on nostalgia. Several critics have gone so far as to label the picture as one of the “worst films of the year.” The only aspect of the film receiving praise is the work of the CGI artists, who are credited with creating impressive visual effects and seamlessly blending them with live-action footage.
“The Electric State,” starring Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown and directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on March 14, 2025.
