Joseph Parker has expressed skepticism regarding the illness that caused the cancellation of his anticipated fight with Daniel Dubois.
Parker was scheduled to face Dubois for the IBF heavyweight title last Saturday in Saudi Arabia. However, Dubois withdrew from the fight due to a reported viral infection.
Parker’s attempt to become a two-time heavyweight champion was disrupted just days before the fight in Riyadh when Dubois reportedly contracted a viral infection.
Dubois has not yet commented publicly on his withdrawal, which Parker finds difficult to understand.
In an interview on The Ariel Helwani Show, Parker stated, “It feels strange because Daniel Dubois was present at the public workout and then suddenly became very ill.”
“There was no official statement, no real medical proof or doctor’s confirmation. Nothing at all.”
Parker also noted the timing of Oleksandr Usyk’s callout to Dubois shortly before the withdrawal announcement, adding to his suspicion.
Martin Bakole stepped in as a late replacement to fight Parker. Parker quickly defeated Bakole, maintaining his hopes for a future fight with Dubois.
According to Dubois’ father, Stanley, Dubois is recovering, but his glands are still swollen. He mentioned that doctors made the decision to withdraw Dubois from the fight due to concerns that he would tire quickly, despite Dubois wanting to proceed.
Stanley Dubois stated that the decision regarding Daniel’s next opponent is up to Frank Warren and will be discussed after Daniel rests and recovers from training camp.
