Campbell, a bantamweight, secured an Olympic gold medal for Team GB at the London 2012 Games.

Turning professional in July 2013, he achieved victory in 20 out of 24 matches, with 16 knockouts.

Nigel Farage, leader of Reform, hailed Campbell as a "knockout candidate" as they posed for photographs before the official announcement.

Campbell was presented to Reform supporters at Hull’s Connexin Live Arena on Thursday.

The former boxer stated, "For me, the mayoral position is not about political games."

"It’s about the people of Hull. We have a choice to either remain passive or take action."

"We can advocate for our families, our communities, and our future."

Campbell will be competing against Anne Handley from the Conservatives, Kerry Harrison representing the Green Party, Labour’s Margaret Pinder, Mike Ross from the Lib Dems, and Rowan Halstead of the Yorkshire Party.

In a campaign video, Campbell expressed that representing his country had been an "honor".

He added, "One of my proudest moments was returning home after the Olympics."

"Witnessing the overwhelming support from everyone. It was a rare moment of national unity… I am committed to fighting for the people of this city."

The 37-year-old concluded his boxing career in 2021 after a defeat to Ryan Garcia in Dallas, Texas.

Prior to retiring, Campbell contended for the interim WBC lightweight title, nearly two years after his defeat to Vasiliy Lomachenko in a world title bout at The O2 Arena.

However, he was defeated by Ryan Garcia in the seventh round, despite a determined effort in the US.

Announcing his retirement, Campbell shared on X: "Throughout my career, from my debut on June 13, 2013, to my final fight on January 2, 2021, the encouragement and cheers have been immense."

"Throughout my career, I have strived to compete against the best in the sport and have never avoided any challenge."

"I am deeply thankful that this has been recognized by supporters, and I value each of you."
