Nick Ball, a British boxer drawing comparisons to a young Mike Tyson, is being considered as a future opponent for Naoya Inoue, the pound-for-pound king.
Known as “The Wrecking Ball,” the undefeated fighter boasts 21 victories and currently holds the WBA featherweight title.
Standing at just 5ft 2in, the boxer from Liverpool has earned comparisons to “Iron Mike” Tyson due to his similar physique and aggressive, high-energy boxing style.
Ball captured his title last June against American Ray Ford and has openly expressed his admiration for the legendary heavyweight Tyson.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Ball stated, “I’ve always admired Mike Tyson.”
“I appreciate his boxing style and have aimed to incorporate elements of it into my own approach.”
“There’s no hesitation, always looking to finish the fight against opponents. It’s a dynamic, action-packed style, which I believe is what fans want to see.”
“When you watch boxers like myself and Mike Tyson, you know you’re getting your money’s worth because it’s always exciting and keeps you on the edge of your seat.”
Ball, 28, successfully defended his WBA title in October with a tenth-round stoppage victory over 35-year-old Ronny Rios.
He is scheduled to return to the ring this Saturday at the M&S Bank Arena, facing 38-year-old Irishman TJ Doheny, who is moving up in weight from super-bantamweight.
Doheny previously suffered a knockout defeat against Inoue in September, retiring in the seventh round due to a back injury.
Inoue, 31, is widely regarded as one of boxing’s elite fighters, boasting an impressive 29-0 record with 26 knockouts.
Inoue has already conquered four weight divisions, from light-flyweight to super-bantamweight, and there are talks of him moving up to the featherweight division (126lb limit), where Ball is awaiting.
Promoter Frank Warren mentioned to BoxingScene, “I’m a big fan of Nick Ball. He’s an exceptional fighter, as everyone can see.”
“He has performed brilliantly, progressing through the ranks and showcasing his talent to the boxing world.”
“He has capitalized on every opportunity and demonstrated his capabilities.”
“A fight between him and Inoue, should Inoue move up in weight, is something I would very much like to see happen in December.”
“Of course, both fighters need to keep winning, but I believe it would be a fantastic match-up.”
