The highly anticipated British boxing clash between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua could be broadcast on Netflix if Fury decides to come out of retirement.
Fury seemingly ended hopes for this domestic showdown in January when he announced his fifth retirement after losses to Oleksandr Usyk.
However, Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh is expected to offer Fury a substantial amount to tempt him out of retirement.
If Alalshikh succeeds, Netflix is likely to bid for the rights to broadcast this major event.
According to Sports Illustrated, Netflix is aggressively moving into major boxing events and is interested in securing the Fury vs Joshua fight.
Netflix previously ventured into boxing with Mike Tyson’s controversial return fight against Jake Paul last November.
They have also secured the rights for the trilogy fight between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano on July 11.
Netflix might partially finance Alalshikh’s offer to Fury to ensure they broadcast this potentially historic British boxing match.
It would require a significant offer to persuade Fury to box again.
The former WBC heavyweight champion seems content with his retirement, with his cousin Andy Lee stating he “seems very happy.”
Anthony Joshua, however, remains hopeful for a fight with Fury, telling IFL TV that it “makes sense” commercially and is “a great man’s fight.”
“People might mention Parker, but Fury, commercially, is a great fight and a significant bout between two top athletes. It’s been a long time coming, and the heavyweight division is currently thriving. While a fight with Parker would also be compelling, the Fury fight remains the most significant.”
“Ultimately, in any fight, there will be a winner and a loser, and there will be bloodshed, but it won’t be mine.”
