The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is set to celebrate cricketing legends Dilip Vengsarkar and Ratnakar Shetty by bestowing upon them lifetime achievement awards.
These prestigious awards will be handed out by Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan at a special ceremony. The event will take place at the MCA’s Sharad Pawar Indoor Cricket Academy and Recreation Centre in BKC, Mumbai, on Thursday.
Dilip Vengsarkar is a celebrated former captain of the Indian cricket team, having played in 116 Test matches. He was also a vital part of India’s historic 1983 World Cup victory.
Ratnakar Shetty is recognized as a distinguished cricket administrator with extensive experience serving the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for many years.
Adding to the list of honorees, the MCA will also recognize Diana Edulji, a former captain of the Indian women’s cricket team, and administrator Pravin Barve for their contributions to the sport.
MCA President Ajinkya Naik stated, “Mumbai Cricket has consistently been at the heart of Indian cricket, producing iconic players who have defined the game. While we celebrate our past successes, we are strongly focused on the future – fostering young talent, improving infrastructure, and ensuring Mumbai remains a powerhouse in Indian cricket.”
He further added, “Through our steadfast dedication to developing cricket at the grassroots level, supporting player well-being, and striving for excellence at all levels, we aim to strengthen our cricketing heritage and pave the way for future generations of champions. The future of Mumbai cricket is promising, and together, we will elevate it to even greater heights.”
