Microsoft is set to introduce advertising within its Copilot AI assistant for Windows. According to a company blog post detailing the product’s future, this move is aimed at attracting a future audience.
Specifically, Copilot will gain functionality that allows both users and brands to develop AI agents. When users ask Copilot about products or services, they will be offered a “promotional gallery”. Microsoft emphasizes that this feature is part of a broader strategy to engage with the audience of tomorrow.
Microsoft explains that this approach blends organic content with rich advertising content, designed to highlight product benefits as users explore queries with Copilot. This immersive environment is intended to allow users to interact with products in a manner akin to visiting a physical showroom. Future developments will further integrate brand agents into this advertising space, enabling users to directly interact with virtual brand representatives.
Copilot is not the first Microsoft product to incorporate advertising. Previously, ads have been implemented in Windows, including the Start Menu, and within the free version of the Office 365 suite.
