British actress Janet McTeer, aged 63, is reportedly in consideration for the role of Professor McGonagall in the upcoming “Harry Potter” series adaptation. Deadline reports on the star’s negotiations with HBO.
According to the publication, McTeer has not yet been confirmed for the role. The actress is best known for her portrayal of Helen Pierce in the series “Ozark,” as well as for her role in the film “Albert Nobbs.” In addition to McTeer, HBO is also in discussions with another British actor, Paapa Essiedu, regarding a role in “Harry Potter.” Information about this first emerged in December 2024, and now, according to media sources, the actor and HBO are in the final stages of negotiations, although no official contract has been signed yet.
The announcement of a “Harry Potter” series based on the books was made in April 2023. The show’s creators aim to adapt J.K. Rowling’s franchise with maximum detail, and the author herself will be involved in production as an executive producer. It was previously officially announced that John Lithgow has been cast as Albus Dumbledore.
