A Bangladesh Cricket Board official stated on Monday that the experienced cricketer Mahmudullah has requested not to be considered for a central contract starting from March 2025.

In the proposed central contract list for 2025, Mahmudullah was placed in grade B. According to a BCB official speaking to media, Mahmudullah asked the board to exclude him from the central contract from March onwards. He will, however, receive his salary for January and February as he is part of the current central contract which began at the start of the year.

During the last board meeting, the central contract draft was discussed but not immediately approved. Following the Champions Trophy, the positions of both Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim in the national team were questioned. Mushfiqur Rahim recently retired from ODIs, and it is anticipated that Mahmudullah, who has played 239 ODIs over his 18-year career, may soon follow suit.

Reportedly, Mahmudullah informed the board about his lack of interest in participating in the 2027 World Cup. His decision to withdraw from the central contract is seen as a step in this direction.
