Delhi Capitals have appointed Kevin Pietersen as their mentor for the upcoming IPL 2025 season.
The former England captain will be part of a revamped coaching team. This team includes Hemang Badani as Head Coach, Venugopal Rao as Director of Cricket, Matthew Mott as Assistant Coach, and Munaf Patel as Bowling Coach. The Delhi Capitals have not yet announced who will captain the team this year, following the release of Rishabh Pant after the previous season.
Pietersen has prior experience with the Delhi franchise, having captained them in 2014 when they were known as the Daredevils. He also captained Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2009. However, this role as mentor will be his first coaching position in the IPL since he retired from playing in 2016.
Pietersen has a strong relationship with the GMR group, the owners of Delhi Capitals. He played a key role in facilitating the GMR group’s acquisition of Hampshire County in October 2024.
In 17 seasons of the IPL, Delhi Capitals have reached the final only once. They will start their attempt to win their first IPL title against Lucknow Super Giants, Rishabh Pant’s new team, on March 24.
