Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is currently at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to determine his fitness for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL). This marks his second visit to the facility in a short period, as he aims to get clearance to play for Mumbai Indians.

During his previous visit to the NCA, Bumrah reportedly felt some discomfort while bowling. Following observation, NCA coaches recommended specific exercises and advised him to return for further assessment. However, this time, there’s a growing positive feeling about his recovery progress.

If Bumrah bowls without pain or discomfort this time, he could receive clearance to play in the IPL. Despite the optimism, it’s generally expected that he will need at least another week to regain full match fitness, likely meaning he will miss Mumbai Indians’ initial matches.

Mumbai Indians coach Mahela Jayawardene expressed cautious optimism about Bumrah’s situation, stating that Bumrah has started his recovery progress and the team is waiting for feedback from the NCA. He mentioned that Bumrah is in good spirits and the team hopes he can join them soon.

Jayawardene acknowledged the challenge of playing without Bumrah, recognizing him as a world-class bowler and a key player for Mumbai Indians over the years.

In related news, Sanju Samson is also scheduled to visit the NCA next month for further clearance. He has been partially cleared to bat after finger surgery but is not yet allowed to keep wicket. Consequently, Rajasthan Royals plan to use him primarily as a batter in the initial games and have appointed Riyan Parag as captain. Samson will consult with the NCA again after the first three games to reassess his wicket-keeping readiness.
