Jake Paul has publicly ridiculed Floyd Mayweather, referencing a black eye Mayweather sustained in a previous exhibition boxing match against a YouTuber. Paul confidently stated his intention to knock out the boxing legend within just two rounds.
Mayweather’s comments on Jimmy Fallon’s talk show sparked the feud. When asked about Paul’s upcoming, controversial fight with Mike Tyson, Mayweather spoke about the difference between his pay-per-view success and the viewership of free boxing events, seemingly referencing YouTuber boxing.
Mayweather had said on the show, regarding the subject of YouTuber boxing and pay-per-views, “Basically, when you’re boxing for free you can have millions and millions and millions, hundreds of millions of views. But when you’re watching Floyd Mayweather, you have to pay! I mean, I did pay-per-view numbers. Check the record.”
Mayweather, 48, who retired in 2017 after defeating UFC star Conor McGregor, 36, in a fight that sold 4.4 million pay-per-views, has continued to participate in exhibition matches. These bouts have included fights against YouTubers like Logan Paul and Deji.
In response to Mayweather’s comments, Jake Paul mocked Mayweather for receiving a black eye from Deji, brother of KSI, in an exhibition fight with a small audience. Paul retorted, “You bum. Deji gave you a black eye in an event that had 4,000 people in it. Deji hahahah. I would knock you out in 2 rounds and you can’t sniff Mike Tyson’s toe.”
Deji indeed caused a visible bruise to Mayweather in their 2022 Dubai exhibition match. In a separate event in 2018, Deji also managed to make Paul bleed from the nose, despite losing the fight.
Deji responded to Paul’s tweet with an image of Paul bleeding from the nose, adding to the online banter.
Recently, Jake Paul’s negotiations for a potential fight with Mexican boxing icon Canelo Alvarez fell through. Paul is now reportedly preparing to announce his next opponent. Mayweather’s most recent exhibition match, against the grandson of notorious mob boss John Gotti, went the distance.
