Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have brought in Mayank Agarwal as a replacement player for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season. This move comes after opening batsman Devdutt Padikkal was ruled out of the tournament due to a hamstring injury.
Padikkal had been enjoying a standout season for RCB, particularly impressive at number 3 in the batting order. He scored 247 runs in 10 matches at an impressive strike rate of 150.61, including two half-centuries. This performance marked a significant improvement compared to his more modest returns in previous IPL campaigns.
Mo Bobat, Director of Cricket at RCB, expressed his thoughts on the change: “It`s genuinely unfortunate to lose Devdutt at this critical stage of the competition, especially considering the significant impact he`s made this season. Mayank Agarwal possesses considerable IPL experience, having participated in 127 matches where he has registered one century and thirteen half-centuries. RCB was actually his first IPL franchise, and since then, he has played for several other teams. His most recent stint with Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024 saw him score just 64 runs in four games, resulting in him not being picked up in the auction held late last year.
