Idris Virgo, a professional boxer, opted out of a potential return to the reality show Love Island to fully dedicate himself to Misfits Boxing and his training alongside KSI.
Virgo, who initially gained fame on Love Island in 2018 as an undefeated boxer, currently holds a professional boxing record of 12 wins and one draw.
Recently, Virgo has been more involved in celebrity crossover boxing events with Misfits Boxing, an organization founded by the famous YouTuber and boxer, KSI.
His upcoming match is scheduled for April 12 in Leeds against Ty Mitchell, who previously sparred with Tyson Fury.
This commitment to boxing led Virgo to decline an offer to participate in this year’s Love Island All Stars series.
Virgo explained to SunSport that choosing between Love Island and his boxing career was difficult. He acknowledged that Love Island gave him his initial platform, but ultimately, he decided to focus on his boxing training for the upcoming fight.
To enhance his training, Virgo has moved from Birmingham to London to train with KSI at London Shootfighters.
Regarding KSI’s boxing abilities, Virgo commented, “KSI is genuinely skilled. People underestimate his abilities. In professional boxing terms, I’d place KSI at a British or European level.”
He further elaborated on KSI’s strengths, noting his powerful right hand, agility, stamina, and growing boxing intelligence. Virgo believes KSI has a comprehensive boxing skillset.
KSI, also 31, is preparing for his return to the ring after a defeat against Tommy Fury in October 2023, which marked his first loss.
Virgo, who served as KSI’s main sparring partner before the Tommy Fury fight, recounted experiencing KSI’s punching power firsthand during their training sessions. He was so impressed by KSI’s strength that he bet on KSI to win by knockout in the Fury fight.
KSI’s next fight is against MMA fighter Dillon Danis on March 29 in Manchester.
Virgo predicts KSI will demonstrate improved boxing IQ in this upcoming fight and anticipates a knockout victory for KSI, likely in the third or fourth round, attributing this to KSI’s training at Shootfighters.
Furthermore, Virgo addressed the potential matchup between KSI and Jake Paul. He believes KSI is eager for the fight, but accuses Jake Paul of avoiding it. Virgo hopes that Turki Alalshikh, a prominent figure in Saudi boxing, can facilitate the highly anticipated bout.
Virgo emphasized KSI’s determination to fight Jake Paul, even suggesting they would fight anywhere to make it happen, and remains optimistic that Turki Alalshikh could make the fight a reality.
