Boxer Chris Eubank Jr. has been fined £100,000 for an incident involving rival fighter Conor Benn and an egg.
The confrontation took place last month during a face-to-face meeting to promote their rescheduled fight on April 26 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. This was the first time the rivals had met since the fight was announced.
At the press conference, tensions escalated quickly when Eubank Jr. smashed an egg into Benn’s face. This act was seen as a reference to Benn’s previous failed drug test from three years prior.
The egg-throwing incident ignited a brawl on stage, involving Benn, promoter Eddie Hearn, and Benn’s father Nigel, who all attempted to confront Eubank Jr.
Security intervened and separated the teams, but the animosity is clearly building before their upcoming middleweight fight.
As a result of his actions, Eubank Jr. has now been penalized with a significant £100,000 fine.
The British Boxing Board of Control issued a statement confirming the fine, stating that Eubank Jr. was in breach of conduct regulations during the press conference for the fight scheduled on April 26, 2025.
Boxing fans have taken to social media to share their reactions to the fine. One fan commented that the fine was “definitely worth it” in their opinion.
Another fan joked about the cost of the prank, stating, “Eggs are expensive after all.”
Following the egg incident, Eubank Jr. alluded to Benn’s past drug test controversy, which previously led to the cancellation of their fight in 2022.
The WBC had previously suggested that Benn’s positive test for clomiphene could be linked to egg consumption.
Eubank Jr. later posted on social media, stating he “contaminated him with an egg,” referencing the alleged reason for Benn’s failed drug tests.
Benn responded with a tweet directed at Eubank Jr., predicting a quick victory in their upcoming fight.
In related news, Eubank Jr. has claimed the fight with Benn will be very lucrative for him, contradicting claims about the financial split for the fight.
Eubank Jr. stated that he received a direct offer for a substantial amount to take the fight, setting the record straight regarding the fight’s financial arrangements.
