Organizers of the Esports World Cup 2024 have allegedly failed to fully compensate some staff and participants across at least four esports disciplines for their involvement in the event held six months ago, according to sources.

The reported payment issues affect esports athletes who competed in tournaments for Apex Legends, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Tekken, and PUBG Mobile, as well as personnel who supported these competitions. The total amount of outstanding payments is not precisely known, but is rumored to be in the tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars per individual, potentially accumulating to millions of dollars in total debt.

The EWC Foundation, the entity responsible for disbursing payments, has commented on the matter, claiming that 99% of the owed funds have already been processed. They attribute the remaining delays to the geographical diversity of recipients and varying international legal jurisdictions, which necessitate additional processing time. Following this statement, sources were contacted again. While some confirmed receiving their payments, others stated that they are still awaiting their due compensation.

The Esports World Cup 2024 took place in August 2024 and featured a total prize pool of $60 million distributed across 22 different esports titles.
