Chris Eubank Jr. told his father that he smashed Conor Benn with an egg because he felt outnumbered.
The 35-year-old middleweight from Brighton reacted at the Manchester press conference for their April 26th fight when his 28-year-old opponent was accompanied at the face-off by legendary British fighter Nigel and promoter Eddie Hearn.
Two-weight world champion Eubank Sr, 58, was furious about the original 2022 fight taking place – knowing Benn had failed a drug test in the summer – and correctly predicted it would be cancelled.
He is also refusing to endorse the upcoming fight at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, declining to capitalize on his iconic 1990s rivalry with Nigel.
Jr, who usually behaves with the same decorum as his father, explained that a feeling of being unsupported led to his outburst.
“It’s not behaviour I understand,” the retired fighter said on his Call Chris Eubank channel. “Where did that come from?”
“But I spoke with him a few days ago about this egg thing, and he said, ‘Dad he is a cheat and we are promoting the fight.’
“’I got pulled in and yes I premeditated it because they keep telling me, ‘My dad doesn’t like me.’
“’It’s me alone, dad, so that’s what I thought I would do and I have justified it.'”
The relationship between Eubank Jr. and his father deteriorated around 2020 when the younger fighter decided against his father managing him.
In 2021, tragedy struck when son and brother Sebastian passed away from a heart attack in Dubai, further straining the family dynamic with grief.
Jr – who was fined £100,000 for the egg incident – has expressed his desire to have his father in his corner for this third chapter of the family feud.
He made an emotional appeal to his father during an interview, saying: “I’m here.
“I’m getting ready for the biggest fight of my life.
“If you want to be next to me, like his father’s next to him, we can do it together.
“If not, no hard feelings, I’ll get the job done for you — don’t worry about it.
“He’s my old man. It doesn’t matter if I don’t talk to him until the day I die.
“I’m always gonna love him. He taught me everything. As far as I know, he doesn’t want this fight to go ahead.”
However, the notoriously firm Sr. seems reluctant to change his stance for now.
