Chris Eubank Jr. has stated that he will not apologize for throwing an egg at his rival boxer, Conor Benn. He believes Benn deserved the humiliation.
Eubank might face consequences from the British Boxing Board of Control for the incident that happened before their upcoming fight on April 26.
Eubank, aged 35, criticized Benn and promoter Eddie Hearn regarding Benn’s two failed drug tests in 2022. Benn claimed the failed tests were due to eating contaminated eggs.
Eubank mentioned being jokingly checked for eggs by security at Tottenham’s stadium and said he would do it again if he could.
He argued that throwing an egg at someone who blamed failed drug tests on eggs was a minor act and Benn deserved to be embarrassed.
Both the UK’s National Anti-Doping Panel and WBC cleared Benn, 28, of wrongdoing regarding the traces of a testosterone booster found in his samples.
Eubank referred to Benn as “a dirty little omelette” and questioned if he had gone too far, stating that many lines had been crossed in the past couple of years.
He expressed his opinion that he was sitting with untrustworthy individuals in boxing – someone who cheated and someone who helped him avoid consequences.
Eubank said he usually respects his opponents, except for those who cheat and are not honest fighters.
He stated that he was not armed at the event because he was thoroughly searched multiple times and couldn’t bring anything in.
Eubank concluded by saying that their upcoming fight will be intense and brutal.
Tense moment Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn are kept apart by security in lift at explosive press conference
During the confrontation, Conor Benn’s father, Nigel Benn, grabbed Eubank Jr by the neck, and security intervened.
Eubank warned Nigel Benn against repeating physical contact.
Conor Benn responded by telling Eubank to not threaten his father.
Nigel Benn apologized for grabbing Eubank, explaining he thought Eubank had attacked his son.
Hearn and DAZN were responsible for the original fight in October 2022, which was cancelled due to Benn’s failed drug tests.
Eubank has pledged £50,000 to compensate boxers from the cancelled undercard who lost earnings.
Eubank criticized Hearn for attempting to include a clause in his contract that would prevent him from speaking negatively about promoters.
He highlighted that many people lost money on tickets and travel for the original event and were not compensated.
Eubank hopes Hearn and Conor Benn will also contribute £50,000. He added that other fighters are afraid to criticize Hearn, but he is not.
