Boxing champion Carson Jones has died at the age of 38, prompting an outpouring of tributes.
Jones is best known for his two fights against Kell Brook during his career, which spanned 63 bouts.
The American boxer, whose last fight was in 2023, recently became ill due to complications from surgery on his oesophagus.
Former opponent Caleb Traux confirmed the sad news.
Traux shared a photo of himself with Jones and commented, “Rest in paradise my friend. Boxing has lost a good man, gone too soon.”
In January, Jones had informed his followers on social media about his struggles with gastrointestinal issues.
This condition affects the digestive system, the path food and liquid take from the mouth to the anus.
Jones mentioned that he was scheduled for oesophagus surgery, stating it was “driving him insane.”
He also described his difficulty eating, sometimes managing only a few bites a day, and experiencing significant weight loss.
Traux had previously asked for prayers for Jones, mentioning the surgical complications and the need for positive support.
Jones fought against notable boxers such as Antonio Margarito, Ted Cheeseman, and Callum Walsh, in addition to his bouts with Kell Brook.
His last fight was in October 2023, where he won against James Warren in the second round in a light-heavyweight match.
British boxing referee Mark Lyson expressed his condolences, saying, “Very sad to hear about the passing of Carson Jones at just 38. RIP Champ.”
Manager Sam Jones also shared his sadness upon hearing the news about Carson Jones.
