Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul have suggested a sensational boxing match could take place in 2026, following a publicized phone conversation.
YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul ignited social media when he challenged Joshua in an episode of his podcast released on Thursday.
Paul stated his ambition: “I want to fight Anthony Joshua – exclusively – because I am confident I can defeat him.
“He is vulnerable, lacks skill, and is too rigid. Anthony, I respect you, we are friendly, but I want to box you.
“I believe I can beat Canelo and many others.”
Later that day, Joshua responded by sharing a screenshot indicating he was in a five-minute call with Paul.
Adding to the anticipation, the former world heavyweight champion simply posted: “2026.”
Paul mirrored this by also sharing a photo from his call with Joshua, captioning it: “Look who called. 2026 @anthonyjoshua.”
The 28-year-old American’s most recent fight was against 58-year-old Mike Tyson, a victory that drew controversy due to the significant age difference.
Following that event, which reportedly garnered over 100 million views on Netflix, Paul’s team suggested that a fight with Joshua was a possibility.
A matchup against Joshua would likely surpass those viewership numbers.
Paul reached a career-high weight of 227lbs for his win over Tyson.
Joshua, 35, weighed in at 252.5lbs for his defeat to Daniel Dubois in September, indicating a weight difference of approximately two stone compared to Paul.
Paul’s boxing record stands at 11 wins and 1 loss, his only defeat being a split decision against Tommy Fury in 2023.
Back in 2021, Joshua publicly voiced his support for Paul, acknowledging his entry into boxing.
He commented, “[He’s] great for boxing. He’s committed, despite having no amateur background, and is challenging himself significantly.”
“He is likely to learn more than many fighters by pushing himself into challenging situations. I wish him well.”
